Psychic vs. Medium: Doug Did Not Know What He Ordered

A fictional Frequency Story. The characters and reading scenes are invented for entertainment and reflection, not client testimonials.

Doug orders the same thing at every restaurant so he never has to read a menu. This did not prepare him for booking a reading. He had searched "psychic near me" and gotten a menu anyway. Psychic. Medium. Tarot reader. Intuitive. Reiki. "Which one is the regular kind?" he asked his wife. "What do you want to know?" "If I should sell the boat."

"Then ask about the boat, Doug." Doug searched "difference between psychic and medium" and read for twenty minutes. He came away knowing less than he started with. So he booked a session at mrhesch.com and decided to let the professional sort it out. "I'll be honest," Doug told Paul. "I don't know what I ordered." "Happens a lot," Paul said. "Here's the short version. A psychic reads you and what's going on in your life. A medium connects with people who have passed on. A tarot reader uses the cards. An intuitive might not use anything at all." "And Reiki?" "You lie down. No questions get answered. People like it anyway." Doug nodded slowly. "So if I wanted to ask my late Aunt Edna where she hid her pie recipe..." "That would be mediumship. I've trained in it, so say so when you book and we'll plan for that. Is Aunt Edna why you're here?" "No. It's the boat." "Then let's start with the boat." Paul laid out some cards and studied them. Doug studied Paul, and wondered whether he had just paid to learn vocabulary. "Doug," Paul said, "the boat isn't really the question. You've only taken it out twice in three years. What you're deciding is whether selling it means admitting you're getting older." Doug sat back in his chair. He had taken the boat out twice in three years. He had not told anyone that selling it felt like a funeral. "Well, I'll be," said Doug. He did not sell the boat. He did not keep it parked, either. He took it out that Saturday, and he took his wife, and she drove. The pie recipe is still missing. Doug says that's a job for another appointment.
