Will My Ex Come Back? Marcus Asked a Tarot Reader

A fictional Frequency Story. The characters and reading scenes are invented for entertainment and reflection, not client testimonials.

Marcus had written fourteen texts to his ex-girlfriend and sent none of them. He was proud of that. He was less proud of liking one of her photos from 2019 at two in the morning. He unliked it in under a second. He was fairly sure the internet does not work that fast. His sister's advice was free and never changed. "Move on, Marcus." So he went looking for a second opinion and typed "will my ex come back tarot reading" into his phone. That is how he ended up at mrhesch.com, about to pay a man named Paul to answer the question his sister answered every Sunday for nothing. "This is dumb," Marcus told his reflection in the microwave door. Then he booked it. Paul laid out the cards. Marcus looked at them the way he looks at the engine of his car, nodding and understanding nothing. "So is she coming back?" Marcus asked. "Yes or no. I can take it." "I can't make her come back," Paul said. "Nobody can. If anybody ever offers to do it for a fee, keep your wallet in your pocket." Marcus sagged. There went lunch money, he thought. "But here's what I do see," Paul said. "There is something you never said to her. An apology. And it has nothing to do with the fight you two had at the end." Marcus went quiet. There was an apology. It was about her mother's birthday dinner, and he had been carrying it around for eight months like a rock in his shoe. "How did you... okay, that's weird," he said.

"The door on her side isn't locked," Paul said. "I can't tell you she will open it. That's her choice. What I can tell you is that 'u up?' isn't what gets it open." Marcus deleted all fourteen drafts that night and wrote a fifteenth. It had no emojis, and it said he was sorry. Did she come back? That is Marcus's business. He will tell you he slept fine either way, which was news to his sister.

Life's complicated. A little perspective can help.
