Summer sun blazing, sidewalk looking fine
Grabbed the leash, ready for our walking time
But wait a minute, before you take that stride
Put your hand down first, check that concrete side

Test the street first, five seconds, that's the rule
If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your paw
Little paws ain't got the shoes we got
Test the street first before that pavement's smoking hot

Dog can't tell you when it's burning down below
Trusting you to know what they already know
Early morning walks or wait until the sun goes down
Test the street first, save your best friend's paws around

Test the street first, five seconds, that's the rule
If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your paw
Little paws ain't got the shoes we got
Test the street first before that pavement's smoking hot

Five seconds with your palm, that's all it takes
Save your dog some pain, save yourself some heartaches

Test the street first, every time
